Jokes aside, our primary issue with the situation was, rather than pulling these two rule breakers (or their parents) aside, Warren caused a stir among the entire family. We spent a lot of money to have this get together, and it felt inconsiderate to have Warren rain on our parade when perhaps the situation could have been handled with more class. Especially considering the “bad behavior” was not, in our opinion, worthy of eternal damnation.
We should also note that the owner, Warren, was a generally unfriendly guy even before this kerfuffle ensued. There were a handful of others instances, prior to the drama, where we felt Warren made our stay difficult or uncomfortable.
Let’s rewind to how we arrived at this dramatic climax. We were staying at the Haven for a family reunion. During the night of our big get together Warren, one of the owners, appeared at the dinner party with an announcement to make. The room hushed in anticipation. Mostly expecting a reminder to recycle, or request to clean, we were quite shocked to hear two persons in our group broke the rules of the property - and were caught red handed.
Here's the hook: About 20 of my family members were condemned to hell by the owners of The Haven.
What a beautiful place! If you're looking for a quite getaway to relax and reconnect with your family then The Haven is the place for you.
Can't wait to return!
In conclusion, the odds of us returning to The Haven are small. The cabins are all wood so if we burst into flames, that would pose quite a problem for the town that only has a volunteer fire department. Also, this place sort of felt like the setting of a horror movie – renters beware.
The staff was helpful and considerate of our privacy. They offer a game room, banquet hall, kayak and canoes, a huge outdoor fire pit, some hiking trails, options for lodging, a huge indoor fireplace and a huge wrap-around deck overlooking Star Lake.
The owners are very religious and *most of our group* are not, so the insult didn't cut us as deeply as they hoped for, but my 87-year-old mother and her best friend were sure confused by the ugliness.
While on Star Lake you can see clear to the bottom and get lost in your thoughts while in the middle on a kayak surrounded by amazing views.
After a short description of the "bad behavior”, our group received a generalized "You're all going to hell". The 18 guests, who were previously unaware of the blasphemy, were stunned and uncomfortable.
Poor Carson, only 3 years old, barely had a chance to live that pure life. And poor Grandma B, 87 years old, doesn't have much time to get right with the Lord now.
Very good staff, and a beautiful venue.
There are plenty of family friendly places to visit within a 40 minute drive as well. For someone that is always on a computer and connected i really enjoyed unplugging for my visit.
